People: Appointments, Departures, Promotions

The School of Library and Information Science at the University of South Florida is pleased to announce four new faculty appointments:

Linda Alexander, assistant professor, will be joining the faculty in a tenure-track position. Dr. Alexander's most recent position was Coordinator of the Library Information Program at Western Kentucky University, where she oversaw the training of graduate assistants to teach the required library information literacy course to 2400 undergraduate students each year. Dr. Alexander also taught children's literature and young adult literature in Western Kentucky's Library Media Education Department. Dr. Alexander received her Ed.D. in May 2000 in Higher Educational Administration from the University of Louisville.

Cheryl Dee, assistant professor, was also appointed to a tenure-track position. Dr. Dee has been a visiting professor at the University of South Florida for the past two years where she has taught courses in library administration, online searching, special libraries, and medical librarianship. Previous to teaching at USF Dr. Dee served for 24 years as a
medical librarian at the Watson Clinic Medical Library in Lakeland, Florida. She has won several awards from the Medical Library Association including the Award for Excellence and Achievement in Hospital Librarianship and an award for the best-contributed research paper.

Boryung Ju, a doctoral candidate from the School of Information Studies at Florida State University, will be joining the faculty as a visiting instructor. Jung is completing her dissertation on "Assessing Usability of Menu Driven Interfaces: The User-Process Model Approach" under the directorship of Dr. Myke Gluck. She was the recipient of the ALISE
Methodology Paper Award in 2000 and the Eugene Garfield Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship Award in 1999-2000.

Kevin Rioux, a doctoral candidate from the University of Texas at Austin, will be joining the faculty as a visiting instructor. Rioux holds a Master of Arts in journalism from UT at Austin. His research emphases are information sharing in electronic environments, information-seeking behavior, and human factors in interface design. He has been employed in both libraries and research positions. Last year he held the University
Continuing Fellowship, the David Bruton, Jr. Continuing Fellowship, and the Robert R. Douglass Memorial Endowed Presidential Scholarship at the University of Texas at Austin.
