Florida People: Appointments, Departures, Promotions Jim Alderman was appointed Assistant University Librarian in October. He earned his M.S.L.I.S. from Florida State University in August 1999. Jim is a twenty-five year veteran at Carpenter Library. Paul Mosley was appointed Assistant University Librarian in December. He received his M.S.L.I.S. From Florida State University in August. Paul has worked in the Reference Department at Carpenter Library for 11 years. Kathy Cohen, Assistant Director of Libraries at UNF, and current Vice-President/President-Elect of FACRL, has been elected President of the UNF Faculty Association for 2000-2002. UNF's Barbara Tuck, this newsletter's editor, has been elected Faculty Association Secretary for 2000-2002. People: Awards, Degrees, and Grants At their 25th anniversary banquet on February 11, the UNF National Alumni Association recognized director Andrew Farkas by designating him an Honorary Alumnus of the University of North Florida. The Alumni Association certificate reads: "In recognition of and with sincere appreciation for your many contributions to the University of North Florida." Farkas, the founding director of the Thomas G. Carpenter Library, is about to complete his 30th year of service to the University. He also served as Professor of Library Science in the undergraduate Media Specialist certificate program he established and supervised from 1972 to 1992. People: Papers, Publications, and Presentations Andrew Farkas' most recent article, "The Researcher's Lot is not an 'Appy One" was published in The Journal of The Jussi Björling Society-USA, 9 (2000): 6-9. It deals with some fresh research conducted by Farkas about the life of the Swedish operatic tenor, subject of Farkas' definitive biography of Björling, entitled Jussi (1996). Sheila Mangum served as the facilitator for "Acquisitions in an Online Environment", an ALCTS Creative Ideas in Technical Services Discussion Group at the January ALA Midwinter Conference in San Antonio.
