People: Appointments, Departures, Promotions

Elizabeth Killingsworth has been appointed reference librarian. Previous positions include clinical librarian at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center Library in Hartford, Connecticut and educational services librarian at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.

Gary Hyslop, Head of UCF's Curriculum Materials Center, has retired with best wishes from everyone in the UCF Library.

People: Papers, Publications, and Presentations

Carole Hinshaw, UCF Libraries, and Dr. Kay Allen, UCF College of Education, presented a paper, Prime Time Education: Interactive Television, at the 11th International SITE Conference in San Diego, February 2000. The Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education is the only organization which has as its sole focus the integration of instructional technologies into teacher education programs.

News from the Field: Acquisitions, Programs, Services

UCF Library held the Second Annual Patent and Trademark Open House February 2000. UCF Patent and Trademark Librarian Peter Spyers-Duran demonstrated how to conduct thorough preliminary patent research using Internet databases and traditional patent resources available at the UCF Library. Registered Patent Attorney Brian S. Steinberger gave an informative presentation that covered patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, nondisclosure agreements, and proving conception dates for inventions. There were also ongoing tours of the Patent and Trademark Library and librarians assisted visitors with their patent and trademark research.
