Dear FACRL members, The upcoming FACRL Fall program, “Proving Your Worth and Adding Value to Your Institution”, being co-sponsored by the FLA Academic Libraries Member Group, promises to be a wonderful event. The program will be held at the University of North Florida, in Jacksonville on Friday November 7. The keynote speaker, Dr. Michael Reiner, Executive Dean of the Kent Campus at Florida Community College, will be discussing “A Dean’s Dilemma: Searching for a New Library Director”. His intriguing discussion will begin a day of very interesting presentations aimed at keeping the library at the center of the academic endeavor. Presentation topics include: the library’s contribution to the tenure and promotion process; new partnerships to enhance access to library collections; and new ways of providing instruction in an online environment. In addition, the FACRL Board has provided scholarships to three library students to participate in the program on a panel to discuss the next generation’s ideas for keeping the academic library relevant in times of change. I hope you will make plans to attend. We are very lucky to be able to hold the event on the campus of the University of North Florida. In addition to the all-day program, UNF will host a reception and tour of the beautiful, new UNF Library for FACRL on November 6, 5:30-7:00pm. Registration information is available on the FACRL web site: http://facrl.fcla.edu/programs/programs.html. Mark your calendars for November 6-7! All are also invited to attend the FACRL Executive Board Meeting on November 6, 4:00-5:30 in the UNF Library. The FACRL Executive Board welcomed three new members this past spring – Laurel Crump, Director of Public Services, University of North Florida; Jacqueline Henning, Librarian, Broward College; and David Whisenant, Library Services Consultant, College Center for Library Automation. Each year positions become available on the board. If you are interested in working with an exciting group of academic librarians from diverse libraries across the state, please consider throwing your hat in the ring for a spot on the FACRL Board. See you at the FACRL Fall Program in Jacksonville! Elizabeth Killingsworth
