Indian River Community College

IRCC’s Associate Dean, Dr. Patricia Profeta, has been reappointed to the NCES Academic Libraries Survey Advisory Committee. She was recently invited to serve on the FLA Legislative Committee. She is chairing the Learning Resources Standing Committee of the Curriculum on Instructional Affairs of Florida’s Community Colleges. She recently served on the College’s SACS Steering Committee. She published an article entitled, “Effectiveness of Asynchronous Reference Services for Distance Learning Students within Florida’s Community College System” in Community and Junior College Libraries.

Iris Finstad is a new faculty member having been hired as a Reference/Outreach Librarian at the Miley Library on Main Campus. Iris has had experience working for the Dade County and Marion County Public School Systems, as well as the Central Florida Community College Learning Resources Center. She earned her MA in Library and Information Science from USF. Iris co-facilitated the College’s Lifelong Learning Institute’s 20th Century Classic Novels and their Film Adaptations series for spring 2008.

Michael Furlong, Reference Librarian, was the peer leader for a Lifelong Learning Institute offering on Mysteries featuring author, Bob Morris. Michael also co-hosted the Library’s Coffee Hour offerings, including Creativity in the Workplace, Explorations of Space, and Forensic Science in the Age of CSI: Case Studies from the Archives of the Indian River Crime Laboratory at IRCC.

Marta Kendrick, Technical Services Librarian, was recently promoted to Associate Professor. She also co-facilitated the College’s Lifelong Learning Institute’s 20th Century Classic Novels and their Film Adaptations series during spring 2008. Marta recently served on the College’s SACS Committee.

Zella McDuffie-Smith, Associate Professor/Serials Specialist, was recently recognized for her contributions to the planning of several Black History Month events at the College.

Bianca Rodriguez, Reference Librarian, was recently promoted to Associate Professor. She is also a recent graduate of the Florida Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute. She is hosting the River Readers Book Club for the Adult High School students. Bianca was recently invited to serve on the FLA Planning Committee.

Elaine Sabol, Reference Librarian at the St. Lucie West Library, has been conducting specialized database training sessions for the College faculty. Elaine is the peer leader for the College’s Lifelong Learning Institute’s Nobel Laureates in Literature series during spring 2008.

Angela Selph, Library Specialist, and Berenise Ruiz, Library Technician, were hired recently for the Technical Services department. Deborah Kent, Library Assistant, was hired for the Morgade Library at the Chastain Campus in Stuart. Saiidia Johnson, Public Services Associate, resigned.

Pat Profeta, Bianca Rodriguez, Marta Kendrick, Elaine Sabol, and Michael Furlong won the 2007 Florida Association of Community Colleges Learning Resources Commission's Exemplary Practice for its Information Literacy Program: Learning Outcomes and Assessment.
