Dear FACRL members, As many of you know, FACRL and the FLA Academic Libraries Member Group are represented by the same board. Recent changes in FLA’s structure prompted the board to seek ways to highlight this dual role. For example, FACRL’s Vice President, Elizabeth Killingsworth, is serving as the FACRL/Academic Libraries Member Group representative on the FLA Conference Committee and in that capacity gives input on conference planning in keeping with the interests of academic librarians. The 2007 FLA Annual Conference offered a greater variety of programs geared to academic librarians than ever before, and both FACRL and FLA are committed to continuing this trend. The upcoming FACRL fall program, “Reinventing Outreach: The New Frontier,” is co-sponsored by the FLA Academic Libraries Member Group and SWFLN (Southwest Florida Library Network). FACRL is delighted to have this endorsement for what is certain to be an exciting event. Keynote speaker, Drew Smith, Information Literacy Librarian at USF, will launch a lively day of presentations and discussion about how academic libraries are forging new ground with user outreach. In addition, FACRL has provided scholarships to three engaging library students to participate in the program on a “next generation” student panel. Registration information is available on the FACRL program Web site. Remember to mark your calendars to head to Edison College in Ft. Myers on Friday, October 26! All are also invited to attend the FACRL Board meeting at Edison on Thursday, October 25, 4-6pm. This spring the board welcomed three new members - Jonathan Miller, Olin Library Director, Rollins College; Nancy Cunningham, Associate Director for Reference and Instruction, USF; and Linda Sobey, Assistant Director for Technical Services, College of Law Library, FAMU. Each year board positions become available, so be in touch if you are interested in working with a dynamic group of colleagues to provide educational and networking opportunities for Florida academic librarians. Our goal is to have a diverse mix of librarians from all types of academic and research libraries throughout the state. See you at the FACRL fall program! Betsy Simpson
