FACRL is in a year of transitions. A new board, mainly consisting of newly active members, has begun the task of learning their new duties and responsibilities. Because of changes this past year in how ACRL allocates its funding one of the first priorities of this FACRL board has been to incorporate FACRL as a non-profit corporation. This status can benefit FACRL in many ways – for example FACRL will now be able to apply for programming funding from ACRL and other non-profit organizations. I am pleased to say that FACRL is now officially incorporated in Florida as a non-profit. Our next step is to obtain tax exempt 501-C status. This year's Fall Workshop, entitled Shifting Functions: Changing Roles and Duties in Academic Libraries Today will be held Friday, November 3, 2006 at the Alvin Sherman Library, Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale-Davie, Florida. The program builds on the very well received presentation by University of Arizona Library Director Carla Stoffle at FLA's Academic Section program last spring in Orlando. Speakers will look at the way that libraries and librarians are changing the way they do things – in collection building, collaboration with faculty, bibliographic instruction and personal growth. In addition there will be a presentation from a representative of Wikipedia – which will help us better understand this popular resource. The program will resonate with many of you. I know I deal with an ever changing work environment and the changing expectations of what academic librarians do or can do. I look forward to seeing you at our meeting at NSU!
