Sarah J. Hammill (Distance Learning Librarian, Biscayne Bay Campus) is chair of the Southeastern Library Association's (SELA's) College and University Section. Her work on "Online Dispute Resolution and Education Resources" with CRInfo (www.crinfo.org) was approved for publication in December 2004.

Valerie Boulos (Head, Reference & Instructional Services, University Park Campus) was appointed to the SEFLIN Reference Committee. As such, she facilitated a recent session at the Live Chat: A Reference Tool? workshop and is participating in the organization of the biennial Energizing V Conference. Additionally, she has been reappointed to ALA's LITA Technology and Access Committee.

Douglas Hasty (Head, Access Services Department) reports that at the 2004 ALA Annual Conference in Orlando, RUSA announced that the Interlibrary Loan Committee, a large contingent of the RUSA-MOUSS division, had been granted separate status under RUSA as a full section now known as STARS, or, the Sharing and Transforming Access to Resources Section. From one ILL-related committee and one discussion group under MOUSS, STARS is now made up of no less than seven committees, discussion groups, and liaison groups. Douglas has been appointed to two committees in STARS: the Membership Committee and the Education and Training Committee, with terms for both assignments until 2006. Also, Douglas has an article to be published in a forthcoming issue of the Journal of Access Services about the IFLA Conference this past August in Buenos Aires.

Steve Switzer (Access Services Librarian, Biscayne Bay Campus) has added his efforts to SEFLIN's new mentoring project, ELSUN (Education of Librarians to Serve the Underserved). The program aims to recruit, mentor, and provide tuition assistance to library science students interested in the underserved and Spanish language sectors in South Florida.

George Pearson (Reference Librarian, Biscayne Bay Campus) did a presentation on Japanese culture at the Japan Immersion Day in November. It was co-sponsored by the Japan America Society, and involved about 200 secondary school students from South Florida.

Catherine Marsicek (Latin American and Caribbean Information Services Librarian) delivered a paper on "Global Resource Sharing: Archiving Haitian Cultural Heritage in the Broader Context" at the 16th Annual Haitian Studies Association in October. Catherine also received the FIU Librarian Excellence Award for 2004.

Susan Weiss (Environmental and Urban Affairs Librarian, Biscayne Bay Campus) presented the workshop "Online Sources of South Florida History" for SEFLIN librarians in Ft. Lauderdale.

Dan Hardin (Music Librarian) gave a performance in August at the First United Methodist Church, Waynesville, N.C., on the church's new Casavant organ. In September he gave a faculty recital at FIU's Wertheim Performing Arts Center concert hall. He performed works by Guilmant, Mendelssohn, Franck, Dupre, and Widor on the school's 71-rank Schantz organ.
