Mirta Hernandez and Vicki Grahame presented a poster session at the ALA 1999 Annual Conference. The poster session, Creating Metadata for a Digital Library: How One Cataloging Department is Meeting the Challenge, described the FIU Digital Library and the role of the Cataloging Department in creating metadata records for images from the Wolfsonian Museum, Miami Beach.

Laurence Miller, Executive Director of Libraries, chaired the Intellectual Freedom Committee of ALA's Association of College and Research Libraries at the ALA 1999 Annual Conference. During the conference the committee completed and secured approval for its statement Intellectual Freedom Principles for Academic Libraries.

Salvador Miranda presented a paper, The Latin American Cardinals, at the historical symposium The Last One Hundred Years of the Evangelization of Latin America which was held in Vatican City, June 1999.

Sherry Mosley presented a workshop at Florida Gulf Coast University library entitled Introduction to Government Documents.
