Florida Association of College and Research Libraries (FACRL)

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Florida Chapter ACRL (FACRL) Board. The chapter provides opportunities for professional growth and communication among academic and research librarians in Florida through its fall program, FACRL Newsletter, and distribution list, and promotes ACRL membership and visibility. The board not only directs the chapter, but also serves as the leadership of the FLA Academic Libraries Member Group. Board meetings are held twice per year - in the spring at the FLA Annual Conference and in the fall prior to the FACRL fall program. Between meetings the board conducts business via e-mail and by phone.

All candidates for the board are asked to submit a current vita by April 1. The board notifies applicants shortly after the spring board meeting whether they have been selected. The criteria for selection includes evidence of professional engagement in activities and issues pertinent to academic librarianship. In addition, the board bases its decision on other factors - geographic location, specialization, type of institution - in order to assure diversity in the board's composition.

New board members begin their three-year terms immediately upon notification. Board members are required to be members of ACRL and are expected to:

  • Attend board meetings and chapter programs,
  • Generate ideas for programs of interest to academic librarians,
  • Contribute to efforts required to produce quality programs (e.g. publicity, local arrangements),
  • Participate in e-mail discussions and voting,
  • Assist in recruiting new board members,
  • Consider serving as an officer of the board.
